"I feel sometimes that I am head of the household," Robert Todd Lincoln
Robert's father was gone frequently for work and for politics. He felt the burden of being the oldest child.
"I take full credit for helping my father secure the nomination for president.". Robert Todd Lincoln
After flunking Harvard's entrance exam, what if Robert and his father decided he should come back to Illinois for his college. Would Abraham Lincoln have been become the president of the U.S.?
"There were two lively kids on board who kept the whole train in turmoil, and their tall father did not spank them," Todd family relative
Robert saw his first train before he was 5. He rode trains frequently during his life and especially as CEO of Pullman Co. - the largest manufacture of railroad cars.
Robert flunked Harvard's entrance exam resulting in one year in a New Hampshire preparatory school. That year along with 4 years at Harvard transformed him into a "Yankee". He studied at Harvard at the same time his father served as President.
Robert interrupted his studies to accompany his father, now President-Elect, to Washington D.C.
